Riccall Snow Patrol 2014 Welcome meeting 13th Oct

Snow Patrol

Would you be willing to join our team of volunteers that help to grit our central community footpaths in icy conditions and clear snow from them when it falls? The Council provides you with basic training, a high vis vest, a shovel and gloves and asks only that you turn out when you can. There is no pressure to join in every time as we are well aware of your work, family and other commitments.

You will need to sign up and register with us - this year's welcome meeting will take place at Riccall Regen Centre on Monday 13th October 2014 between 7.30pm and should take around half an hour.

The work that you will join in with is appreciated so much by the other residents within Riccall, particularly our more elderly residents who are much more esaily able to get out to the shops, bus stops and doctor's surgery. We are very proud of our community volunteers and really value them - please come along on the 13th and find out more or if you can't make that evening, contact Lindsey Ryan.

WW1 Centenary

poppy

As many of you will know, the 4th August 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the day Britain entered one of the costliest conflicts in history - the First World War - with fighting continuing until the 11th November 1918, Armistice Day. As a community we have come together in remembrance of events a century ago, remembering the fallen and the effect that the war had on Riccall, Britain and the world.

The Council will provide a new inscription on the war memorial in St Mary's churchyard, which will say

TO MARK THE CENTENARY

OF THE GREAT WAR

1914- 1918

NEVER FORGOTTEN

We hope to have this work completed before Remembrance Sunday and are currently waiting for permission to allow our monumental mason to go ahead. Secondly, we plan to create a small monumental garden on the Village Green.

There is currently a commemorative display in the rotunda area of Riccall Regen Centre, created by Riccall Archive Group.
