Interim news of immediate 24hr temporary traffic signals on A19 at Fulford this week. Monday 23rd until Sunday 29th October

We apologise for the lack of notice regarding the use of temporary traffic signals on the A19 by Northern Gas Networks currently carrying out the gas diversion.

Northern Gas Networks have advised us that 24hr traffic light control will be in operation for one week commencing Monday 23rd October. The traffic signals are being managed by Northern Gas Networks under their licence to work in the carriageway. Northern Gas Networks anticipate that the completion of the gas diversion will take up until 10th November.

We will endeavour to keep you infomred with the news of any further periods of the use of temporary traffic signals by Northern Gas Networks as the works unfold.

Provision for pedestrians and others using the footpaths will be maintained during these operations. Please follow the directions provided by the signs.

We apologise for any inconvenience for those delayed due to the traffic signals caused by these necessary works.

Replacement of local bus services previously operated by Utopia Coaches.

When Utopia Coaches ceased trading in August a number of communities were left with no bus service.  Alternative operators were sought for those services where the County Council offered some financial support and replacement services were introduced within a week.

However this left two services 493 Sherburn – Pontefract and 42 Selby – Cawood - York which Utopia had been operating commercially, with no financial support from the County Council.  Replacement of these services was not done straight away as the indications were that the services were likely to be replaced commercially by other operators.

However the market has failed to provide an alternative commercial service and as a result the authority has decided to support replacements for these services. Details of the new timetables and bus operators from Monday 30th October are available at

Service 42 York – Cawood – Selby –Drax new timetable (including journeys to Drax previously on service 8)

Service 493 Sherburn in Elmet – Pontefract new timetable

Service 37 Tadcaster – York is unchanged

Service 492,493,494 Tadcaster – Sherburn in Elmet is unchanged

It is important that they are used, so that the usage builds to a level where the authority can continue to support the services in the future.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Re Riccall Post Office

Please see below a copy of a response to a Riccall resident from Post Office Services regarding the current situation.

Thank you for your email and my investigations confirm that the Riccall branch will be closing on 12th October, 2017.

The Branch has been closed due to circumstances beyond our control, and we can only empathise with the impact this will have for yourself and other members of the local community.

Post Office Ltd are working hard to try and resolve the situation, but unfortunately we are reliant upon identifying a private individual or a corporate organisation who would be able to operate a new business venture on a Franchise basis with ourselves.

We do approach local stores to establish whether or not they would be interested, and invite local entrepreneurs to contact us should they wish to express an interest. If you or anyone within your community knows of anyone who may be interested in such a new a new business venture they may contact us by email via .

Please accept our sincere apologies for the impact the loss of this branch will cause.

This website will be update with any futher information we receive regarding this situation.
