Local Government Reorganisation
Posted Fri, Mar 26th 2021, 13:35
The Local Government Minister will soon decide on proposals to reorganise the structure of Local Government in this area.
In all likelihood, it will mean that after May 2023 one Council will provide the all the services which are currently provided by Selby District Council and North Yorkshire County Council.
If you haven’t already done so, you have until 19th April to reply to the consultation on the two competing proposals here: https://consult.communities.gov.uk/governance-reform-and-democracy/northyorkshire/
The implications of this change are huge for our area, so it is important that you consider the proposals closely and reply to the consultation.

Media release SDC - residents and businesses praised on anniversary of first UK lockdown
Posted Thu, Mar 25th 2021, 10:35
The Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, has paid tribute to the way residents and businesses have responded to the Covid-19 crisis on the anniversary of the first UK lockdown.
Cllr Crane said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has been very difficult for all of us. We have faced many challenges and, sadly, some have lost loved ones. On the anniversary of the lockdown it is important that we reflect on our losses and acknowledge the adversities we’ve lived through.
“The last year has seen a great many difficulties with deaths, lockdowns, exam cancellations and school closures affecting each and every one of us, with no-one left untouched by the pandemic.
“However, the residents of our district have shown remarkable resilience by coming together to support each other. We’ve seen residents shopping for neighbours, running errands and collecting prescriptions. New community support organisations have been set up and continue to run and support their communities today.
“It has been heartening to see many people commit to shopping locally and supporting their local business community as a response to the pandemic and I hope that continues in the future.
Selby District Council’s Chief Executive Janet Waggott added, “I’m very proud of the flexibility our residents have shown working in different ways to ensure services continue to be delivered to those who need them – in both the public and private sector.
“We’ve seen our business community reacting to the pandemic by adapting, working differently, moving online and changing their services, perhaps by delivering or offering click and collect. The way people have embraced virtual working and adapted to catching up online using video calling to keep in touch has been quite remarkable.
“I’m also really proud of the community spirit and partnership working between the faith, voluntary and community sectors which is still ongoing now. This has been vital to ensure we have been able to help and support each other at such a difficult time and throughout the various lockdowns.
“I think the residents and businesses of the Selby district should rightly be very proud of the way they as a community have reacted to this pandemic.”

Tadcaster Community Patchwork project - instructions & information
Posted Mon, Mar 22nd 2021, 10:25
Because of the success of the Tadcaster Community Patchwork project, Tadcrafters CIC have been commissioned to create a district-wide patchwork with the help of the community, but we've only got until April 12th to get all the contributions in so we really need your help to get the word out!
The project is specifically aimed at people who are experiencing the most social isolation and this is why your support would be particularly important, however, everyone in the district is invited to contribute squares to represent how each of us is part of the community; individually joining together, and connecting with each other to make support networks in our neighbourhoods, villages and towns. This is also an opportunity to have your own organisation represented for posterity.
We would like people of all ages, to join in by making a 15cm/6” square that represents themselves, a loved-one, a feature or an organisation in Selby District. Contributions are best if sewn or painted onto fabric, but drawings and paper collages can be submitted too.
For the creatively-challenged, easy-peasy kits are available from reception at Community House in Selby, and at The Barn in Tadcaster, or I can send some to you.
Completed squares need to be handed in to Community House, Selby, Sherburn Old Girls School and also can be posted to The Barn, St. Joseph's Street, Tadcaster, LS24 9HA by the magical date of Monday 12th April.
Please see the attached Ethos and Instructions sheets
You'll find lots of inspiration on our website or Facebook/Twitter/Instagram posts #PatchOfTheDay
Thank you

Back Lane
Posted Tue, Mar 16th 2021, 11:24
Following consultation with NYCC Highways regarding Back Lane, we have been informed that Back Lane was submitted to County Hall for carriageway and footway works last year, unfortunately we did not receive funding. Another bid will be made this year. Following inspection, officers repaired a few of the worst potholes and raised an order ready for April to repair the rest which have all been marked up.
Census 2021
Posted Tue, Mar 16th 2021, 09:30
Census day is almost upon us and the focus is now on completion of the form and ensuring our region has a high level of returns in order to ensure the correct level of funding for services and organisations over the next decade.
Currently, we are behind the national average in terms of return rates and this is something we need to turn around quickly.
Thanks for all your help and I remain very confident that Census 2021 will be a big success in our region!
